Transit visa not required for Passengers with a confirmed onward ticket for a flight to a third country within 24 hours. They must stay in the international transit area of the airport and have documents required for the next destination.
Sierra Leone does not issue work visas in the United States. The Embassy of Sierra Leone advises that travelers apply for a business visa and upon arrival in Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Labor will issue a work permit. It is recommended that the host in Sierra Leone make necessary arrangements with the Department of Labor in advance.

Business Letter. A soft copy of business letter from the sending company. The letter should be printed on the company letterhead stationery, addressed to "The Consulate of Sierra Leone, Visa Section", and signed by a senior manager. The business letter must adhere to the following guidelines: Briefly introduce the applicant (please specify employment status/position held in the company by applicant). State the nature of the business to be conducted (i.e. nature of contracting, etc.) and the names and addresses of companies to be contacted in Sierra Leone. Specify the Type and desired Validity of the visa (i.e. a one year multiple entry business visa). Guarantee of sufficient funds for travel. In the event the applicant is self-employed, please mention the nature of business conducted in Sierra Leone in the application under "Other" in paragraph 1.15. Specify the place of accommodation in {Country}.

State Department Letter. A letter from the US Department of State addressed to the "Embassy of Sierra Leone, Washington D.C. ", giving a detailed description of the purpose of travel, the names and addresses of any organizations to be visited, and the dates of the trip. The letter must contain the applicant's name and the passport number and should have a statement confirming that the US Embassy in Sierra Leone will take full responsibility for the applicant.
