A visa is required for this destination.

All regular passport holders who are going to work or meet, permanently or temporarily at the diplomatic missions in Iraq, should not apply through the Iraqi Consulate in DC. Their diplomatic mission in Iraq must apply for them through the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs/Protocol Department and then the diplomatic mission will be informed about the approval and the Washington DC consulate will get a copy of that approval to issue the visa.

Tourist visas to Iraq for individuals needs to be applied inside Iraq by an Iraqi sponsor who gives a copy of the passport of the applicant/applicants with a responsibility letter to the Iraqi Ministry of Interior Affairs department and asks them to send the approval to the closest Iraqi Consulate for the applicants, then the Consulate will issue the visa directly. For groups of 5 people or more, visa must be applied through the Iraqi tourist companies, which are contracted with the Iraqi Ministry of Tourism.

  • Business invitation. A business invitation letter from the sponsoring company in the United States. The letter should be printed on company letterhead stationery, addressed to "The Consulate of Iraq, Visa Section", and signed by a senior manager. The business letter must adhere to the following guidelines:
    Briefly introduce the applicant (please specify employment status/position held in the company by applicant).
    State the nature of the business to be conducted (ie. business meetings, contract negotiations, etc.) and the names and addresses of companies to be contacted in the destination country.
    Specify the Type and desired Validity of the visa (ie. a one year multiple entry business visa).

  • COVID-19 Test Result. Please provide a copy of a recently issued negative COVID-19 test result.

  • Visa application form. Fully completed and signed application form. Application MUST be typed. Handwritten applications will not be accepted by the Embassy. Application forms cannot be double sided, please print on one side.

The letter must be written and signed personally by the visa applicant or their legal guardian. A tour company cannot provide the letter on the visa applicant's behalf.

  • Driver's license. A copy of the applicant's driver's license or state issued ID.

  • COVID-19 Test Result. Please provide a copy of a recently issued negative COVID-19 test result.

  • Employment Invitation letter. "A letter from the sponsoring company in the destination country. The letter must adhere to the following guidelines: briefly introduce the applicant; state the nature of the position being offered, salary structure, and duration of the contract.
    An ORIGINAL letter of invitation on company letterhead from the business host in the destination country stating the applicant's title, expertise, duties and responsibilities. It should indicate rationale for hiring the applicant as well as his/her salary, position and qualifications."

      Prior to arrival requirements
      Valid passport. Valid national passport with at least 6 month remaining validity after the date of departure.

      Negative COVID-19 test taken 72 hours before departure required for all travelers.
